In the wake of the category 4 Hurricane that hit the Texas and Louisiana coast over the weekend, I want to take an opportunity to share how you can reach out to help those in need. After watching the footage on TV it brought me to tears to see the utter devastation, displaced animals, homes and cars completely destroyed.
After the record rains, I watched a video on Facebook of a family in Houston being rescued from their home. They had three kids, a big pig and a 3-legged dog. They were lucky to be safe, and lucky they thought to park their car on higher ground a day prior. Makes me think about all those other people who lost everything - homes, cars, some even lost their lives. As I was compiling a list of ways to donate, I came across a New York Times article that did it better, so I will link to it HERE. There are many ways to help, even volunteering your time if nothing else. There are thousands of people and pets affected by the storms. Many have been displaced and the pet shelters in Texas are overloaded with animals due to the flooding in the Houston area. Even here in Austin, the shelters are beyond full. It is an awful scene all around and the clean-up and rebuilding will take months, even years. Please find it in your heart to donate! Every little bit of money helps! Even just $10 goes a long way if enough people donate. #TexasStrong Yvonne Comments are closed.
