It is a smelly job, but someone has to do it . . . and that someone would be me!
After scooping more litter boxes than I can count over the last few months, it dawned on me that perhaps I could help myself out a bit here.
There are a ton of cat litters on the market, most are the sand-esque types that have dominated the market for the past several years. Those work good, and some better than others.
I laugh at those those over-the-top cat litter commercials, but they are not exaggerating - sometimes I feel like people’s entire homes smell like a litter box (heck, my old house in NM used to too I’ll admit, our cat Joyce lived there for almost 21 years). That litter box smell just gets inescapable at times. But what are we going to do? We love our cats and alas they must poo!
I don’t own cats anymore but I realllllllly wanted to highlight a strange looking cat litter that a few of my clients use, it is a blue crystal litter. There are different brands, I believe, but the Natures Miracle Crystal Litter works wonders! I have to say that there is next to no smell with this cat litter, it is amazing. I have no clue how it works, but I just know I’ve been dreaming about this stuff. Crystal cat litter! Who knew!? It is a highly noticable difference from the sand-type litter in my not-so-humble opinion. It is also supposed to be better for pets or people with allergies.
I was doing several cat stop-bys every other day for a few clients and after waste sits in a litter box for over 36-ish hours it can really start to reek! Nothing like a waft of unfresh litterbox air to welcome me each visit! Ha! But with my clients who use the crystal litters there is a very noticeable improvement in odor. The crystals are larger than sand so it's a bit easier to clean up too!
Until you can teach your cats to do this, I’m afraid you’re stuck with only one option: cat litter!
So choose your litter wisely because you’ll be moonlighting as your cat’s personal waste concierge for the rest of his/her life.
