After the record rains, I watched a video on Facebook of a family in Houston being rescued from their home. They had three kids, a big pig and a 3-legged dog. They were lucky to be safe, and lucky they thought to park their car on higher ground a day prior. Makes me think about all those other people who lost everything - homes, cars, some even lost their lives.
As I was compiling a list of ways to donate, I came across a New York Times article that did it better, so I will link to it HERE. There are many ways to help, even volunteering your time if nothing else.
There are thousands of people and pets affected by the storms. Many have been displaced and the pet shelters in Texas are overloaded with animals due to the flooding in the Houston area. Even here in Austin, the shelters are beyond full. It is an awful scene all around and the clean-up and rebuilding will take months, even years.
Please find it in your heart to donate! Every little bit of money helps! Even just $10 goes a long way if enough people donate.
